The Best 5 Horror Movie Series
Why Horror Movies?
Personally, I love to get scared. There is something about horror movies that makes me feel alive. This is a type of movie that you either love or hate. You simply can't be indifferent. It's a type of movie that makes you cover your eyes because you don't want to watch, but you simply must to. I don't know do we love horror movies because of the good screenplay, suspense, or we just want to feel and be brave or scared. However, from my point of view it's hard to make a good horror movie. Either there is a bad script, or bad actors or something else. I've wasted a lot of my time watching some bad horrors, but those which were good worth every minute. So I want to write about some horror movies for which I think are good, and worth watching. Some of these made my childhood very scary, and even gave me nightmares, but I still like them a lot.
These are my favorites: A Nightmare on Elm Street series, Friday the 13th series, Halloween series, Saw series and Hannibal Lecter series.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
One, two, Freddy is coming for you, Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, ten, never sleep again.
This is certainly one of the greatest horror movie series ever made. It is directed by, probably the best horror movies director of all time, Wes Craven. These series consists of nine parts from 1994. to 2010. This last movie, one from 2010, is a remake of the first one.
The main character is Freddy Krueger, fantastically played by Robert Englund. He stalks and kills teenagers in their dreams. Although he kills them in a dream, they are also dead in the real life. His reason for doing that is that he seeks revenge on their parents who burned him alive, and since that, his face is full of burns. In teenager's dreams he is indestructible, he can do everything and he can kill in every possible way, but Freddy uses a glove armed with razors as his favorite weapon. However, if he is put into a real world he can be killed.
Freddy is my horror villain number one. He is not like any other horror character. He talks a lot, he is funny, he makes you love him and to be scared of him at the same time.

Friday the 13th
This franchise contains twelve parts, made from 1980. to 2009. The main character is Jason Voorheese. As a child Jason was drowned at camp Cristal Lake due the negligence of the camp stuff (who were having sex at the time).
After a few years the lake is rumored to be cursed but still attracts tourists, mostly teenagers. At first they have a lot of fun, until Jason starts with his horrible murders. Like every other horror villain, Jason has his trademark. He wears a hockey mask, and uses a machete as his favorite weapon for killing. Jason is very large and strong, and he uses his strength very well. But under that hockey mask, we can see that he is just one undeveloped sad boy, who is scared and listens only to his mother.
Another great horror movie, but I must say that the first few parts of this franchise are better then the recent ones.

Halloween
The first part of this masterpiece was directed by John Carpenter, who later participated, in one way, or another, in creating all of the other parts, This franchise contains ten movies created between 1978. and 2009. Last two movies, from 2007. and 2009., are remakes. The main villain character is Michael Myers who was institutionalized as a child after killing his sister. Fifteen years later he managed to escape and started stalking and killing people of Haddonfield.
His former psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis is trying to catch Michael while he is obsessed with murdering his younger sister Laurie Strode who was adopted and changed her last name, after Michael started with his childhood murders.
Michael never speaks, until the remake in 2007, when he is speaking as a child. He has almost supernatural strength and is extremely hard to kill. His trademark is a white mask, and he often uses a large knife for killing.

Hannibal Lecter
Forget any other movie villain, because Hannibal Lecter is the champion. Lecter is beautifully portrayed by one of the greatest living actors, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and for playing Hannibal he received an Academy Movie Award. This franchise has four parts. In three of those, Hannibal was portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins, except the last one, which is in a matter of fact, chronologically the first one. Sounds complicated, I know. The first movie, "The Silence of the Lambs", was made in 1991, but actually it's supposed to be the third movie. After "The Silence of the Lambs", second movie came out in 2001. This one is named "Hannibal", and this is actually the fourth part of the series. Then, "The Red Dragon" came out in 2002, which is the second movie, and finally "Hannibal Rising", the movie from 2007, came last, although it's supposed to be the first one. However if you watch it in this order you will get the full picture.
Hannibal Lecter is highly educated, sophisticated and extremely smart. He was nicknamed as "Hannibal the Cannibal" because he likes to eat his victims. Sounds cruel, but he does everything with style. This is the villain that you have to love, His intelligence is fascinating. However, in these movies, he is mostly in prison, blackmailing the FBI which begs him for his help to catch some very dangerous criminals. These movies are definitely worth watching
Saw
Personally, this one is my favorite, mostly because of a very good screenplay. This franchise has seven parts, filmed from 2004. to 2010. The main character is John Kramer, also known as the "Jigsaw killer".
He has unique killing methods. Jigsaw doesn't kill his victims but traps them in situations that he calls games. His famous sentence is "I want to play a game" which he pronounces every time he is about to kill the victims. Thing that makes Jigsaw different from the other horror villains is that he has no intention to kill people. He wants to test their will to live instead. He wants to know what are those people willing to give and do just to stay alive. If they withstand the torture he lets them go. Probably the most interesting thing in this franchise is that John Kramer dies in the third part, but he keeps showing up via flashbacks.
He's very smart, disciplined and plans his murders a lot. People he traps are the ones that, by his opinion, do not deserve to live. Jigsaw's trademark is the clown mask and a three - wheeled bicycle.
