About Romantic Comedies

Romantic comedies are a movie genre which have humorous background, but in the end it's all about romance. These are funny entertaining movies, almost always about two people that live different lives, or come from different social environment, or maybe even have partners who they think that they are in love with, but in the end, despite all these obstacles find a way to be with each other, and to live happily ever after.

Although this is pretty much the rule in romantic comedies, sometimes we can see more then one love story in one movie, but they almost always have the happy end. That's probably why all of us are drawn to these type of movies. Everybody loves a happy ending.

Romantic comedies have evolved over time. If we look the at the romantic comedies before 2000, or even before that, the plot is often about a couple from different social environment, desperately fighting for their love. However, today's romantic comedies follow the modern trend of accelerated life, where there is less and less room for romance.

These are my favorites: Serendipity, Love Actually, Crazy Stupid Love, Definitely Maybe, The Proposal

Serendipity

Serendipity is a 2001. romantic comedy, directed by Peter Chelsom, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. This movie is all about faith and destiny, for two people to be together.

It starts when Johnathan (Cusack) and Sara (Beckinsale) meet each other while they were trying to buy the same pair of black gloves. They were immediately attracted to each other but they both were in a serious relationship, but either way they went out together to eat ice cream and skate. Jonathan and Sara both, had the best time of their lives, and he asks her to exchange phone numbers. Sara agreed with him and wrote her number on a piece of paper. However she didn't gave him the paper, but it flies away with the wind. When Johnathan asked for another one, she said that if its meant to be, fate will do it's magic. Love Actually

Love Actually is a 2003. British romantic comedy directed by Richard Curtis, who gathered one hell of acting crew: Liam Neeson, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Rowan Atkinson, Bill Nighy, Keira Knightely.

This movie is pretty awesome. Love actually is a movie with nine different love stories but very much interlinked. This movie shows us a lots of different love types, like love to your friends, no mater male or female, how it's difficult to be in love with your best friend's wife, how it's hard to get over your wife's death, how it's wrong to cheat, how it's possible for love to beat all social prejudice, how you can be very much in love even if you are just a little kid.

I'm recommending this movie to people of all ages. Anyone can find themselves in one of these characters.

Definitely Maybe

This one is my personal favorite. Definitely Maybe came out in 2008, directed by Adam Brooks, and starring Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher, Rachel Weizs, Elizabeth Banks, Abigail Breslin and Kevin Kline.

Will Hayes (Reynolds) is a single father who is in a middle of divorce. He has a daughter Maya, and he loves her very much. Maya is ten years old, but very intelligent for her age. One day, after Maya learned about sex in school, she asks Will to tell her the story of how and he and her mother meet.

At first Will is not thrilled about that idea, but he starts telling her anyway. Three women took a very big place in his life, and he loved them all, so to make things interesting he makes a game of that story. He will tell Maya all about these women, but he will not use their right names, so Maya has to guess which one is her mother.
